Yes, you can sometimes get a business loan with no collateral in 2026. Unsecured loans and lines of credit do not ask you to pledge a specific asset, but lenders still check credit and cash flow and often require a personal guarantee. Start with your own bank or an SBA lender, get every offer in writing, and compare total cost before you sign.
| Term | Plain meaning | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Collateral | A specific asset (equipment, real estate, inventory, receivables) the lender can claim if you default | Secured loans use it; unsecured loans do not name one |
| Unsecured | Credit based on creditworthiness and cash flow, not a pledged asset | SBA: "unsecured funding does not require you to pledge collateral" |
| Personal guarantee | You personally promise to repay if the business cannot | SBA notes many lenders require one on unsecured loans |
| UCC lien | A public notice that a creditor has a claim on business assets | Can appear even when no single asset was pledged; ask before you sign |
| Secured alternative | Equipment financing or invoice factoring uses the gear or invoices themselves | Can fit better than an unsecured term loan |
No collateral does not mean no strings. Read what you are signing for.
Unsecured vs secured in one paragraph
SBA puts it simply: "unsecured funding does not require you to pledge collateral, whereas secured funding requires you to pledge valuable assets." Real estate, inventory and equipment are the usual ones. SBA also notes a lender may charge a higher interest rate to make up for its added risk. Read SBA's unsecured funding explainer.
Options that usually skip specific collateral
An unsecured term loan from a bank or credit union.
An unsecured business line of credit. See how to get a business line of credit.
A business credit card. It is not a loan, but it is often unsecured.
SBA-guaranteed loans. SBA's loans page lists "no collateral needed for some loans" as a benefit; the lender decides. See how to qualify for an SBA loan.
SBA microloans through nonprofit intermediaries for smaller amounts. See how to get an SBA microloan.
When an asset-backed option is smarter
Need a vehicle or machine? Equipment financing uses that gear as collateral and can cost less than an unsecured term loan. Cash stuck in unpaid business invoices? Invoice factoring uses the invoices.

Ask in writing whether the offer needs specific collateral, a personal guarantee or a UCC filing.

If credit is thin or weak
Unsecured offers get harder. That does not mean taking the first cold call. See bad credit business loans, no credit history and startup business funding.
If the caller says "no collateral loan," check what it is
Many cold callers pitch merchant cash advances as fast unsecured funding. An MCA buys future sales and is repaid daily or weekly from revenue. It is not a loan and not an SBA product. Here is an example, not a quote: a $50,000 advance at a 1.35 factor rate means $67,500 paid back over about six months, roughly 126% APR. Read is a merchant cash advance a good idea, merchant cash advance alternatives and how to stop MCA broker calls.
If you get turned down
Ask why, fix the file, and try a different product type, such as a microloan, equipment financing or factoring. See business loan denied: what to do next.
