$50,000 In cash, zero equity, and you don't need a registered business to apply. Ben Franklin's Big Idea Contest in central and northern Pennsylvania closes Friday, October 16, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. If you have a tech-enabled idea sitting in a notes app, this is the week to send it.
The other three are smaller, and that's the point. Fewer people chase a $5,000 storefront grant in one North Carolina town, a $1,000 pitch prize in the Adirondacks, or a $1,000 grant for students building tools for cancer patients. Smaller pools mean better odds.
Grants are competitive. Treat each one like a lottery ticket you earn with careful paperwork. We opened every official page today. If a number below doesn't match when you click, trust the page. They're listed by deadline, soonest first.
1. Big Idea Contest (central and northern Pennsylvania)
- Amount: $50,000 in total cash, split among the winners, plus a $2,500 People's Choice award voted by the live audience. Prizes also include a spot in the TechCelerator accelerator and one-on-one mentoring. No equity and no fees.
- Who qualifies: ideas or businesses located in Ben Franklin Technology Partners' 32-county Central and Northern Pennsylvania region, with no more than $1 million in annual sales. You don't need a registered business yet, but you must plan to register in Pennsylvania. Past Ben Franklin funding or Big Idea or TechCelerator cash winners are out. They want scalable, tech-enabled ideas.
- The catch: usually 6 to 8 finalists are picked. Finalists must attend a Zoom pitch training on November 3, write a 2-page business summary, help make a promo video, do at least one coaching session, and pitch at the virtual finale on December 10. Budget 5 to 6 hours a week.
- Deadline: October 16, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern.

2. Business Beautification Grant (Graham, North Carolina)
- Amount: up to $5,000 per award, as a 50-50 match. You pay for the work first, and the city reimburses you within 45 days after the finished project is approved.
- Who qualifies: owners, or tenants with the owner's written consent, of existing non-residential buildings facing a road corridor inside Graham's city limits or its extraterritorial area. Money covers street-facing work like exterior paint, signs, awnings, roof repair, landscaping, outdoor lighting, and wood or masonry repair. First-time applicants get priority.
- The catch: you need at least two itemized quotes, and at least one must come from a contractor who isn't family. The checklist asks you to meet with the city building inspector first. Work must be finished by May 1, 2027, and you have to keep it in like-new condition for five years.
- Deadline: October 23, 2026 at 5 p.m., by email or mail to the Graham Planning Department. The Appearance Commission reviews applications November 2.

3. Adirondack Launchpad Pitch Competition (New York's North Country)
- Amount: $1,000 for the top Innovation and Tech pitch, $1,000 for the top Main Street and Makers pitch, and $500 for Audience Choice. Finalists also get pitch coaching.
- Who qualifies: North Country entrepreneurs with an existing business or an early idea that is based in, serves, or will have real impact on the greater Adirondack region. The makers track fits shops, artisans, outdoor gear, tourism, and local services.
- What you send: answers to basic pitch questions, at least one piece of tangible proof of progress, and your resume or LinkedIn profile.
- Deadline: October 26, 2026. Finalists are named November 3, decks are due November 9, and pitch night is November 12.

4. Student Health Tech Grant (college and grad students)
- Amount: $1,000. Half is paid up front when you're picked, and the other half is a reimbursement after a six-month check-in. No equity. It covers costs like APIs, software, cloud hosting, and domains.
- Who qualifies: students currently enrolled at an accredited university at any level, undergrad through PhD, building health tech with a clear connection to cancer care or cancer patients. Broader health projects may be considered as a second category.
- What you send: a short written application and a 1-to-2-minute founder video. The foundation says it takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
- Deadline: November 30, 2026. Decisions come in mid-January 2027.

Before you apply
A real grant never asks for a processing fee, a gift card, or your bank login to "release" the money. None of the four above lists an application fee on its official page. If someone cold-calls you about a grant you never applied for, hang up. Don't pay for a list of grants.
Pick the one you actually qualify for. A tight, specific application beats ten rushed ones every time.
