Summary verdict
OnDeck is a long-running online lender that offers business term loans and lines of credit. Third-party reviewers describe it as fast but expensive. NerdWallet lists estimated APRs of 35% to 99% for term loans (NerdWallet). Public sentiment is split: Trustpilot ratings are high, while BBB customer reviews are low.
Paper Grade: A paper
OnDeck lists minimums of a 625 personal FICO, 1 year in business, $100K in annual revenue, and a business checking account (OnDeck). It funds APR-priced term loans and lines of credit, not merchant cash advances (NerdWallet). That puts its target borrower in the established, good-credit tier. Paper grade describes the borrower profile this lender targets, not the lender's quality.
Research-Based Reputation Score: 8.0 / 10 (reputation rank: tied #4 of 72 lenders scored, as of October 2, 2026)
How we got there: start at 5.0, then +1 for Trustpilot at 4.7/5 (Finder), +1 for BBB accreditation (since March 1, 2008) with an A+ (BBB), +1 because it has operated since 2006, and +1 because we found no regulator orders or court judgments in which OnDeck itself is a named party. In 2023 the CFPB issued an order against OnDeck's parent, Enova International, over its consumer brands CashNetUSA and NetCredit, and terminated it in September 2025 (CFPB; Enova's ownership of OnDeck per NerdWallet). OnDeck was not a party to that order, which did not involve its small-business lending, so it is not scored. Then −1 for recurring complaint themes in 64 BBB complaints over three years, mostly billing, payoff statements, and loan terms (BBB complaints). BBB customer reviews average 2.58/5 from 157 reviews (BBB reviews), just above our 2.5 cutoff, so no deduction. The total is 8.0.
About the Paper Grade: it reflects only the borrower profile and deal type the lender targets (stated credit, time-in-business and revenue minimums, and product type). It is not a judgment of the lender's quality. A = strong credit (about 625–650+), established businesses, APR-priced loans or lines. B = fair credit (about 600+), short-term or factor-rate products. C = credit about 500–599, younger businesses, MCA or revenue-based, or sales-based platform financing with no credit check. D = minimal credit requirements, very new businesses, stacked positions or high-risk industries. Lawsuits and regulator actions never change the Paper Grade.
About the Research-Based Reputation Score (1–10, half-points): it summarizes public signals and is not the opinion of MCAFax. Every lender starts at 5.0. Points are added for BBB accreditation and an A+ rating, years in business, strong Trustpilot ratings, and a clean record (no regulator orders or court judgments in which the lender itself is a named party). Points are subtracted for a BBB rating of C− or lower (−1), a BBB customer-review average below 2.5/5 (−0.5), recurring complaint themes (−0.5 to −1), and a pending class action (−0.5). Government actions are scored only when the lender itself is a named party: −1 for a settled action not about borrowers, −2 for a regulator consent order with a penalty and no admission, −3 for active enforcement or a final order about borrower treatment, and −5 for an industry ban or court finding of liability. The lowest score, 1.0, is reserved for lenders under an industry ban or a final fraud judgment. Ratings we could not read score zero, and routine collection suits are not scored. Every point applied to this lender is listed above. Ranks are as of the date shown; MCAFax cannot confirm or deny any allegation counted here.

Background
According to Finder, OnDeck was founded in 2006 and has funded more than $15 billion in small-business loans. It's part of Enova International. On September 14, 2026, Enova announced that it had withdrawn its applications to acquire Grasshopper Bancorp and said its growth does "not depend on becoming a bank" (Enova). OnDeck makes loans priced with an APR. It doesn't sell merchant cash advances, so its offers can be compared directly with bank and SBA quotes. Our cost-of-capital calculator can help with that comparison.
What borrowers report
According to Finder, "Reviews of OnDeck on Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) tell two completely different stories" (Finder).
Trustpilot: Finder recorded 4.7 out of 5 from 5,182 reviews as of December 18, 2025. Trustpilot's own page summary says reviewers praise staff and speed, while "opinions on payment terms are mixed, with some expressing concerns about interest rates and clarity regarding payment schedules" (Trustpilot).
BBB: OnDeck's current BBB profile shows accreditation since March 1, 2008, an A+ rating, customer reviews averaging 2.58 out of 5 from 157 reviews, and 64 complaints over three years (BBB reviews, BBB complaints).
Reddit: Search results show Reddit threads discussing OnDeck. Reddit blocked our access to the threads themselves, so we don't summarize them here.
Pros (as reported)
Fast funding, including same-day funding when the timing conditions are met (OnDeck). Trustpilot reviewers frequently mention quick approvals (Trustpilot).
A lower credit bar than most banks: 625 FICO and one year in business (NerdWallet).
Payments are reported to Experian, Equifax, and PayNet, which can help build business credit (NerdWallet).
You work directly with OnDeck, with no third-party broker in between (OnDeck).
Cons (as reported)
High estimated APRs, with term loans at 35% to 99% (NerdWallet). One BBB reviewer who described a positive experience still cautioned that a line of credit is "expensive (50%+) APR" (BBB reviews).
Term loans are repaid daily or weekly, which NerdWallet notes can be hard on uneven cash flow (NerdWallet).
Paying early may not save much. According to NerdWallet, borrowers who don't qualify for the prepayment benefit still owe 75% of the remaining interest (NerdWallet).
Finder reports that OnDeck shares some user information with third parties, so you may receive marketing messages (Finder).
Reported concerns to plan around
These are allegations in public complaints, not findings.
Refinance expectations. One BBB complainant alleges they were told they could refinance after paying down 50%, and says they were then denied after paying down more than 73% (BBB complaints). If a promise matters to you, get it in writing.
Collections after default. In a published response to a BBB complaint, OnDeck states that a written-off loan was transferred to a third party for servicing (BBB complaints). If you're falling behind, see our guide to falling behind on financing.
Know which entity is your lender. It may be Celtic Bank (OnDeck), and that affects where you would file a complaint. See where to complain.
Who it may suit, and who may want to skip it
May suit: businesses with 1+ year in business, $100K+ in revenue, a 625+ FICO, and steady deposits that can handle frequent payments for a short, defined need. May want to skip: businesses that qualify for an SBA or bank loan and can wait (see our SBA 7(a) guide), thin-margin businesses with lumpy revenue, and businesses in North Dakota.
