Michigan announced a $5,000 safety equipment match for small employers on October 14, 2026. It is one of the few statewide grants a small business can apply for directly right now. Most other Michigan grant money is local: downtown authorities, cities and regional groups.

- Amount: a dollar-for-dollar match up to $5,000 for safety and health equipment and related training.
- Who qualifies: Michigan employers with 250 or fewer employees under MIOSHA jurisdiction, with a site-specific evaluation justifying the equipment. High-hazard industries get preference.
- Deadline: rolling; MIOSHA says grants are awarded until funds are exhausted.

Downtown Norway Facade Improvement Grant
- Amount: up to 70% reimbursement, maximum $20,000. You match at least 30%.
- Who qualifies: property or business owners in the Downtown Norway DDA district, current on property taxes and city accounts, for permanent exterior work.
- Deadline: Friday, October 30, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

Skip $10,000 Growth Grant (nationwide)
- Amount: one $10,000 grant.
- Who qualifies: U.S.-based entrepreneurs and small business owners age 18 or older, so Michigan owners can apply.

How to apply without missing a step
- Confirm your address is inside the program area before anything else.
- Read who qualifies: employee counts, years open and revenue limits knock out most applicants.
- Gather your business license, recent tax return, quotes or photos the page asks for.
- Note the time zone and hour on every deadline, then submit a day early.
Example
Here's a hypothetical. Ana runs Copper Basin Roofing (a made-up business) with six employees in the Upper Peninsula. Her crew needs new fall harnesses. She writes up a short site evaluation, gets two quotes, and applies for the MIWISH match. Because her office building is downtown, she also asks the Norway DDA about the facade grant.
Scam red flags
- Grants.gov says applying for a federal grant is completely free.
- Nobody legitimate asks for a fee to release a grant you won.
- The SBA only emails from addresses ending in @SBA.gov.
