Mission Viejo opens a grant of up to $3,500 today for making your shop worth a photo. Applications for the California city's program open at 8 a.m. Pacific, and the money goes to murals, signs, feature walls and outdoor seats. The city wants your customers posting about you.
The catch: you need at least two employees, a real storefront, and three online workshops in December. Home businesses are out.
Here's a hypothetical. Fernhollow Coffee (a made-up cafe) has two baristas and a blank wall by the door. A painted wall with the shop name, plus a plan to get customers to tag it, is the kind of project the city says scores higher.
Closing sooner: three $15,000 grants for women-owned businesses close Saturday, October 31. College students can pitch for $1,000 by Monday, November 9.
Grants are competitive. We opened every official page today. If a detail differs, trust the page.
1. Amber Grant (women-owned businesses, U.S. and Canada)
- Amount: three $15,000 grants each month: the monthly Amber Grant, a Startup Grant, and a category grant. October's category is Creative Arts. At year end, three monthly winners get an extra $75,000.
- Who qualifies: women 18 or older who own at least 50% of a business based in the U.S. or Canada. Idea-stage and pre-revenue businesses count.
- The catch: fee to apply is $15, non-refundable. You can ask for a fee waiver by email before you apply. Winners are picked on merit, not by drawing.
- Deadline: October 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern for the October grants.

- Who qualifies: college students registered with a school email, on teams of 1 to 5. Startups must have raised under $1 million.
- The catch: send a 10 to 14 slide deck. The top six present live at UC Berkeley on Thursday, November 12, so finalists must travel.
- Deadline: November 9, 2026.

4. Equitable Transfer Program (BIPOC-led food, beverage and body care brands)
- Amount: a share of $20,000 per round, up to $10,000 per brand, paid to your Technical Administrator to cover Non-GMO Project or Non-UPF Verified costs.
- Who qualifies: companies that self-identify as BIPOC-led and are enrolling or renewing eligible products in either verification program.
- The catch: this pays for verification, not cash to you. If you are not enrolled yet, attend a webinar, watch the recording or book a call first. You also need a cost estimate from a Technical Administrator.
- Deadline: November 13, 2026.

- Who qualifies: for-profit brick-and-mortar businesses in Mission Viejo with 2 to 25 full-time-equivalent employees as of January 1, 2026 (the owner can count), a Certificate of Occupancy and no active code violations.
- The catch: to get paid you attend three 90-minute Zoom workshops (December 1, 8 and 15), do one consulting session, put up a city plaque or decal, and have a social media account. Selected businesses are told by November 23.

Before you apply
A real grant never asks for a gift card or your bank login to release money. The Amber Grant lists its $15 fee on its own rules page; no other grant here lists one. If a caller asks for cash to unlock a grant, hang up.
If #1 fits, apply this week. It closes in 12 days.
