Rohm Co. (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 6963), the Kyoto power-chip maker, closed at 3,903 yen on October 20, 2026. Blue Orca Capital, a fund best known for short reports, says it is long Rohm because its stake in the 2023 Toshiba buyout could return 8.5x to 17.5x its cost after tax, value the market has not priced. The catalyst Blue Orca points to is a future Toshiba relisting, which Bloomberg has reported could come as early as fiscal 2028.

Key facts
- Ticker and exchange: Rohm Co., Ltd., 6963, Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime (Yahoo: 6963.T).
- Situation type: hidden asset; a private-equity stake carried near cost on the balance sheet.
- The call: long, from Blue Orca Capital, pitched at Sohn Tokyo on October 16, 2026 and posted on X on October 19 (US time).
- The stake: Rohm committed 100 billion yen as a limited partner and 200 billion yen in preferred stock to the Toshiba buyout vehicle in 2023.
- Price: 3,903 yen at the October 20, 2026 close, about 1.5 trillion yen of market value on our math (386.0 million shares outside Treasury).
- Also named: Chubu Electric Power (9502) and TRE Holdings (9247), the other two of Blue Orca's "Toshiba Three."
- Main risk: the stake is private and illiquid, and much of its value rides on Kioxia shares, which have been volatile.
Is 6963.T a good bet right now?
The case for Rohm is that investors may be valuing a struggling chip business and ignoring a large private stake. The case against is that the stake cannot be sold or marked to market until Toshiba lists again.
Rohm's own numbers show why sentiment is weak. For the year ended March 31, 2026, Rohm Co. Reported net sales of 481.1 billion yen, up 7.3%, but a net loss of 158.4 billion yen after 193.6 billion yen of impairment losses, mostly on its silicon carbide (SiC) business.
The stock has also been falling. Rohm closed at 5,096 yen on October 8, 2026, so the October 20 close is about 23% lower. That drop came during a global AI and chip selloff that CNBC reported hit Japanese names such as Advantest and Renesas.
Why are investors bullish on Rohm?
- Toshiba has turned. Toshiba's FY2025 results show record net income of 1,967.3 billion yen, driven largely by gains on its Kioxia shares.
- Kioxia sales raised cash. Toshiba cut its Kioxia stake to 12.84% as of September 7, 2026, raising about 360 billion yen in the latest sales, Seoul Economic Daily reported, citing Nikkei. Toshiba says Kioxia sales sped up its debt repayment.
- The stake is carried at cost. Blue Orca says the market misses the value because Toshiba LP investments sit on balance sheets "at cost less returned capital."
- The core business may inflect. Blue Orca expects upward revisions to FY3/27 estimates and cites Rohm's work with Nvidia on 800V DC power for AI data centers.
Who's making this call and why?
Blue Orca Capital was founded by Soren Aandahl in 2018 and is known for short reports on companies such as Teladoc and Sun Communities. In an X thread on October 19, 2026, the fund said the three companies hold Toshiba stakes "that could be worth 80-96% of their current market cap."
In the same thread, Blue Orca estimated Rohm's upside at "51% to 144%," depending on the value of Rohm's core chip business, Toshiba and Kioxia. Blue Orca discloses that it is long and may trade at any time.

Other voices:
- Senjin Capital's Jamie Halse made a similar point in a March 2026 post about Denso's bid for Rohm. He wrote that the bid "likely significantly undervalues Rohm," because Rohm's 14% Toshiba stake was booked at only 100 billion yen.
- Two tracked accounts reposted the idea. Deep Sail Capital and Japan Deep Value both reposted Blue Orca's opening post on October 19-20, 2026. Reposts are not written endorsements.
Who disagrees?
We found no detailed public rebuttal on X. The bear case comes from the facts.
- No exit yet. Bloomberg reported on March 6, 2026 that Toshiba is considering a relisting as early as fiscal 2028, which runs from April 2028 to March 2029. That is a long wait.
- Kioxia swings. Kioxia (285A) closed at 17,900 yen on October 8, 2026 and 13,140 yen on October 20, about 27% lower. Blue Orca's own range runs from Kioxia down 50% to its 52-week high.
- Denso walked away. Denso withdrew its proposal to buy Rohm shares on April 28, 2026, after Rohm's board and special committee had not agreed to support it, Rohm disclosed. One possible buyer is gone.
- Leverage. Rohm funded its 2023 Toshiba investment with bank borrowing, according to its September 2023 notice.
What are the key facts to verify?
- Rohm's July 2023 notice on the 100 billion yen LP and 200 billion yen preferred commitments.
- Rohm's FY2025 financial report: the loss, the impairment, the share count and the integration talks with Toshiba's and Mitsubishi Electric's chip units.
- Blue Orca's report page for the full presentation and disclaimers.
- Toshiba's FY2025 results for Kioxia gains and refinancing.
What would prove it right or wrong?
Right: Toshiba sets a relisting timetable, Rohm discloses a higher value for the stake, or Rohm's SiC and AI power sales lift earnings.
Wrong: Kioxia keeps falling, Toshiba delays its listing, or Rohm's chip business needs more write-downs.
